Model United Nations Assembly

Year 12 and 13 students from schools in Rotary Districts 9910 and 9920 (Auckland and Northland) are assigned and represent a particular United Nations country in debates on matters of world politics and social concern. The process closely follows that of the United Nations General Assembly. Schools send three-student teams (max of four teams per school) to the Assembly, which takes place over two days and is held at Rosmini College in Takapuna, Auckland.

At the Assembly, students get to act as diplomats from different countries. They dress up in their home country's outfits and give two-minute speeches. They also have to be ready to answer questions and talk about their country in impromptu debates. Before the event, students must learn about the country they'll be representing. They will also need to know how the United Nations works.

The purpose of this programme is to simulate the working of the United Nations Assembly by having school teams of three Year 12 and 13 students representing a particular UN country in debates on matters of world politics and social concern. Debates are held from Friday morning until Saturday afternoon. To develop bridges of goodwill for the furtherance of world peace and understanding.

The Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) aims to educate college students on the United Nations and global issues. It helps them develop public speaking and debating skills, and encourages them to voice their opinions and make informed comments on world problems. MUNA also promotes friendship and shared experiences among students from different schools in Rotary Districts 9910 and 9920.
