Laurie Parker Trust Distributes Funds to Aid Heart Disease and Stroke Relief

The Laurie Parker Trust gives grants annually to successful applicants from the Rodney area, with particular emphasis and reference to the Hibiscus Coast area of the Rodney County who support the social wellbeing, relief of suffering and public benefit of residents suffering from heart disease, stroke or similar suffering and disease.

This year, the Trust selected applications from the Rodney Aphasia Group, Companionship & Morning Activities for Seniors (CMA), and Age Concern Rodney to receive $3500 each. Also, $1000 was granted to the Arts Centre for repairs on their defibrillator.

Representatives from Rodney Aphasia Group Inc and Age Concern Rodney attended our latest meeting to be presented with a certificate of appreciation for their service in the community.

Marty, of the Aphasia Group, told us about the struggles of people with aphasia and how they are supporting them through different forms of therapy such as singing and touch.

Age Concern representive Katherine told us about elder abuse and how they are supporting the community through their shuttle services. The funds from the Trust grant will be going towards mobility scooters for local residents who are unable to afford them otherwise.
